About Us

What we do

Stop The Suffering's primary role is to rescue animals that have been placed on the "euthanasia short list". We are a non profit, completely volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of these animals and completely funded by support from our personal and corporate sponsors.

How we do it

We employ a network of volunteers dedicated to saving the lives of animals every day. Many of our volunteers keep a close eye on many different animal shelters both local and afar. When an animal is placed on the "euthanasia short list" we contact the shelter to let them know we will be coming to "pull" the animal/animals.

Once we have the animal, the animal is placed in a temporary “foster home” where the foster parents nurture and care for the animal. This includes veterinary care and visits, all shots and vaccinations and a spay or neuter for the animal. They work on socialization and the animals self esteem which is often fairly bruised and in need of restoration.

The foster family is a great source of information about our pets as they live together and study them very closely. The foster family will provide detailed information about the animal so we can match that animal with the right “forever home”. These descriptions will follow the animals photo on our dog or cat adoptable pet list.

Our Animal Coordinator will make arrangements to test cats and dog as needed for their reaction to other cats, dogs and children. This enables us to make the right placement in your home.

Stop The Suffering provides the foster family with food, a crate and a leash in addition to paying for all medical care and shots. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent please click here to be contacted by one of our volunteer coordinators.

Not all of our rescued animals are on this list for various reasons but mainly because they are not ready to be adopted. They may have just been spayed or neutered, may neeed to be updated with the latest shots or may be recooperating in a foster home due to abuse or neglect.

At several times throughout the month Stop The Suffering participates in Adoption Events where animals can meet their prospective future parents and determine if there is a match. This is where we meet you and introduce you to our animals. Volunteers will gather up as many available dogs as we can and bring them to these events so they can meet you.

Once you have met the dog or cat you would like to adopt we have you fill out an application about you and how your new pet will live and be cared for. We are very thorough in the application process to prevent problems down the road. It is quite stressful on an animal to be moved around and we try to reduce complications by being thorough in the beginning.

When an application has been approved, a Stop The Suffering volunteer will arrange for a home visit. This enables us to see where and how your new pet will live. It also allows us to see the interaction between any other animals in the home or children. If the match is a good one, the animal is adopted and the adoption fee is paid. If you should have any additional questions about our process or wish to help in any way, we would be thrilled to hear from you!
